The destination

Discover the Daymaniyat Islands

Nine uninhabited islands scattered across the Gulf of Oman — a protected nature reserve and the finest snorkelling in the country.

Lying roughly 16–18 km off the Muscat coast, the Daymaniyat Islands have been a government-protected reserve since 1996. Their reefs shelter more than 300 species of fish and over 100 species of coral, alongside sea turtles, dolphins, rays and reef sharks. Seasonal whale sharks pass through between June and October.

As a permitted operator, we follow the reserve's rules so the islands stay pristine. Beaches close from 1 May to 31 October for nesting birds and turtles; island landings run from 1 November to 30 April.

Best season is October to April, when seas are calm and underwater visibility is at its best.

What an absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! Before setting off the captain clearly explained all safety procedures. Seeing the dolphins was truly breathtaking, and the BBQ was exquisite. The hospitality was outstanding.

Our captain Jamal brought us to a number of spots to snorkel — saw literally dozens of turtles in one spot, beautiful reef fish and some of the most amazing beaches we have ever seen. One of the highlights of our trip to Muscat.

Comfortable boat, a choice of various snacks — even vegetarian — fruit, juices and water in unlimited quantity. The guide was so friendly and filmed me on the GoPro. The most chic part: an incredibly beautiful pristine island, azure warm water and swimming with turtles.
